福島県二本松市の合戦場（かっせんば）の桜は、源義家と阿部貞任・宗任兄弟がこの地で戦った古戦場跡であることが名前の由来だそうです。巨大な一本桜のように見えますが実は樹齢150年ほどの2本の枝垂桜が寄り添っているとのこと。樹高は18mもあるそうです。満開となる4月下旬には周囲の菜の花との共演がすばらしく夜にはライトアップされます。多くの人が花見に訪れ屋台も沢山出てとても賑やかな雰囲気に包まれます。
